2019 Creekside Cabernet Merlot
$ 17.39
The versatile Bordeaux blend of Creekside The Creekside winery, as winemaker Rob Power ironically puts it, is run by a “disrespectful bunch.” By this he means a group of like-minded professionals from the wine industry who bring an impressive and quirky blend of winemaking know-how as well as sales and marketing know-how. The goal of these buddies is to produce Canadian wines that are distinctive, break conventions, and bottle the unique terroir of the Niagara Peninsula. The grape material for the Creekside Cabernet Merlot comes from several first-class vineyards on the Niagara Peninsula. It is a classic Bordeaux blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. The fermentation took place after a four-day cold maceration, i.e. the cold soaking of the grapes, in stainless steel tanks. The 12-month expansion took place in used oak barriques. And what does the Creekside Cabernet Merlot taste like? The Creekside Cabernet Merlot offers seductive, multi-layered berry fruit. Blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries paired with fine spice and herbal notes rise from the glass. On the palate, black berries continue animating, the tannin is youthful and fine-grained, the acidity well integrated. This cuvée from Creekside is very harmonious and quite pleasing due to its lightness. An elegant red wine from Niagara Canada, which convinces both solo and as a versatile food companion.
